What Is the difference between these two materials? In this short blog we won’t go into all the detail, but give a brief explanation between the two materials.
The main difference between the two substrates is this: carton-board or the better term Folding box board is a multi-layered solid material, corrugated on the other hand has flutes sandwiched between a top liner (sheet of paper) and a bottom liner.
Corrugated cardboard is made up of layers of brown kraft paper and is such a versatile packaging material stiff, strong, and light-weight. A strong material that resists tearing, splitting, and bursting.
Most items delivered to your favourite supermarket, store or shop are in boxes made of corrugated cardboard, and many of these boxes can be used to display the products they keep safe.
Folding Box Board is a multilayer material usually with three or more layers of cellulose fibre (pulp) derived from wood.
The top layer, usually white, has a pigment coating allowing for complex printing process to be applied to the board. The reverse may also be coated or may be white, brown, cream or grey depending on the fibre used.
Using microns (1000ths of a millimetre) as the measurement for folding box board the thickness of these boards range from 350 to 800 micron.
Typical uses come from the cosmetic industry, medical and health care products, some food products and luxury products.
